Hardik Pandya has been ruled out of India's next match against New Zealand in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 following a left ankle injury during the match against Bangladesh in Pune.

Hardik under Medical Supervision

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday stated in a press release that the star allrounder won't be travelling with the squad to Dharamsala ahead of their match against the Kiwis.

Hardik was sent for the scans immediately after he injured his ankle, where he was advised to take rest.

The statement further added, "He is advised to rest and will be under the constant supervision of the BCCI medical team." He is set to rejoin the team in Lucknow where India faces England.

Hardik sustained the injury during the ninth over of the match, when he tried to stop the travelling ball with his leg on the follow-through. Meanwhile, he failed to stop and the ball raced towards the boundary. The getting medical attention, Hardik tried to run, but eventually left the ground after feeling discomfort. 

India's thumping win against Bangladesh

After completing the scans, the allrounder returned to the dressing room, and it is understood that he was willing to bat if needed. However, India chased down the target comfortably by trashing Bangladesh by seven wickets. 'Men in Blue' chased down the 257-run target set by Bangladesh in 41.3 overs.

The hosts of the top ICC event, India is unbeaten so far in the World Cup, will play against table-toppers New Zealand at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium on October 22.
