The eleventh match of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 is being played between Bangladesh and New Zealand at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Bangladesh have set a target of 246 runs.

New Zealand won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first in the multinational event. Bangladeshi wicketkeeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim was the top scorer for his side, scoring 66 runs off 75 deliveries packed with six fours and two sixes, skipper Shakib Al Hasan scored a handy knock of 40 runs including three fours and two sixes.

Early strikes by Kiwis

Trent Boult started the proceedings, striking on the very first ball of the innings dismissing Bangaldesh’s explosive batter Litton Das, who tried to wip the ball from the leg stump and caught on the square leg side by Litton Das.

Bangladesh slips the ground quite easily after the Kiwi speedster Lockie Ferguson dismisses Tanzid Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz cheaply. Although Mehidy Hasan Miraz failed to convert into big innings despite getting a good start. He was dismissed after scoring 30 runs off 46 deliveries. Mahmudullah at the back end played the crucial knock of unbeaten 41 runs which lifted Bangladesh’s total to 254 runs.

Kiwi speedster Lockie Ferguson scalped three wickets while Matt Henry and Trent Boult scalped two wickets each. Mitchell Santner and Glenn Phillips also added their names to the wicket tally by Taskin Ahmed and Najmul Hossain Shanto respectively.

Kane Williamson returns

Earlier in the game, New Zealand’s regular skipper Kane Williamson was back to his services after missing a couple of matches in the multinational event. Batter Will Young has been excluded from the playing XI while Mahmudullah has been included in the playing XI replacing Mahedi Hasan.
