England opening pair Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan gave a brisk start by adding 45 runs for the first wicket. Ben Stokes scored the highest for England at 43 off 73 deliveries while Lahiru Kumara was the peak of the bowlers from Sri Lanka, who 3 three wickets. Angelo Mathews provided the first breakthrough of the innings by dismissing David Malan, who scored 28 runs including six boundaries. England scored 59 runs in the mandatory first powerplay.
