The Defending champions have scored 339 runs helped by the blitzing hundred from Ben Stokes against the Netherlands in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Wednesday. Dawid Malan missed out on his well-deserved century by 13 runs. He hammered 87 runs off just 74 deliveries.

The English openers gave a brisk start by adding 48 runs in 6.5 overs, however, Jonny Bairstow was dismissed on the last ball of the seventh over, who scored 15 runs off 17 deliveries. David Malan combined with Joe Root continued the proceedings as England scored 70 runs in the first mandatory powerplay.

While Joe Root perished in the run of play as he tried to play a cheeky shot as he tried to play the reverse scoop shot. Logan van Beek claimed Root's wicket, who scored 28 runs off 35 delievries. 

England's middle order failed yet again

David Malan failed to reach the hundred mark as he was involved in an unfortunate run-out incident. England's middle order failed yet again after England's skipper Jos Buttler and allrounder Moien Ali were dismissed under a single-digit score. Harry Brook failed to justify his selection in playing XI as he failed again and got dismissed after scoring just 11 runs.  

Ben Stokes hammered his fifth ODI century off just 78 deliveries. He scored six boundaries and six maximums before being dismissed on 108. He becomes the first England player to score 10,000+ runs and pick 100+ wickets in international cricket. Chirs Woakes played a crucial innings in the last 10 overs of the innings by scoring 51 runs off 45 deliveries.  

Bas de Leede was the pick of bowler from the Dutch side, who dismissed three English batters.

Change in Playing XI

Earlier, England's skipper Jos Butler won the toss and decided to bat first in Pune. The defending champions made two changes as Mark Wood and Liam Livingstone were replaced by Gus Atkinson and Harry Brook, respectively. While Netherlands made one change in the playing XI as Teja Nidamanuru returns.
