World Cup 2023 ENG vs NED: England breaks five-match losing streak with victory over Netherlands

England thrashed the Netherlands in a dead rubber match in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on Wednesday. In pursuit of 340 runs, the Dutch were bundled on 179 in 37.2 overs. The defending champions ended their losing streak by handing a 160 run defeat to the Netherlands.

Chasing the target of 340 runs, the Dutch suffered early blows as Chris Woakes and David Willey removed Max ODowd and Colin Ackermann respectively in quick succession. The pair of Wesley Barresi and Sybrand Engelbrecht added 54 runs off 70 deliveries before the former was dismissed by an unfortunate runout.

Rashid and Moeen Ali claim three wickets hauls

Only Scott Edwards and Teja Nidamanuru put up a fight as the pair added 59 runs for the sixth wicket. The resistance came to an end as the former batter was dismissed by Moeen Ali. The English bowlers bundled the Netherlands innings quickly as the tailenders failed to fire. Rashid and Moeen Ali scalped three wickets each while David Willey claimed two wickets. Chris Woakes dismissed Max ODowd.

England posts a mammoth target

Earlier in the innings, the Defending champions scored 339 runs helped by the blitzing hundred from Ben Stokes against the Netherlands in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Dawid Malan missed out on his well-deserved century by 13 runs. He hammered 87 runs off just 74 deliveries.

Ben Stokes hammers 5th ODI ton

Ben Stokes hammered his fifth ODI century off just 78 deliveries. He scored six boundaries and six maximums before being dismissed on 108. He became the first England player to score 10,000+ runs and pick 100+ wickets in international cricket. Chirs Woakes played a crucial innings in the last 10 overs of the innings by scoring 51 runs off 45 deliveries.
