Sri Lanka is on the verge of elimination as it locks horns with Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Monday.

Asalanka saves Sri Lanka

Bangladesh's skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and invited the Lankans to bat first in the 38th encounter of the ongoing tournament. Sri Lanka posted 279 in 49.3 overs, helped by the brilliant ton form inform batter Charith Asalanka. The batting allrounder hammered 108 runs off 105 deliveries including 6 boundaries and 5 maximums. Pathum Nissanka and Samarawickrama scored 41 runs each. 

Tanzim Hasan Sakib was the pick of the bowlers from his side, claiming three wickets while Shoriful Islam and Shakib Al Hasan claimed two wickets each. Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed the wicket of Dhananjaya de Silva. 

Bangladesh suffers early blows 

Bangladesh is currently chasing the target as it lost momentum with the two quick blows. In the pursuit of 280 runs Bangladesh was rocked back by the double blows from Dilshan Madushanka who dismissed the openers, Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das.
