The Pakistan men’s cricket team led by skipper Babar Azam successfully chased the record target of 345 against Sri Lanka at the Cricket World Cup 2023 on Tuesday. Wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan and Pakistan’s young sensation Abdullah Shafique scored hundreds as Pakistan registered the highest successful chase in World Cup history.

However, Babar Azam failed to make an impact in the game and was dismissed after scoring just 10 runs. This was the second instance that the star ODI batter failed in the ongoing multinational event. In Pakistan’s first match against the Netherlands, Babar Azam was dismissed for just 5 runs in Pakistan’s campaign opener of the World Cup.

Pakistan’s next game is against the arch-rivals India, and Pakistan’s speedster Shoaib Akhtar shares a message for the Pakistani skipper.

Shoaib Akhtar on his YouTube channel said, “Yes, Babar Azam could not do well again. But we have found another player like Babar Azam in Abdullah Shafique. Babar is obviously a great player, but you need to go out there and win in bigger games like these. I am sure you will be able to do that in days to come. I hope you play big knocks in big games”.

Shoaib Akhtar praises Pakistan’s bowlers

‘Rawalpindi Express’ also backed the bowlers of Pakistan who conceded 344 runs at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. He said, “As far as bowling is concerned, I will support them. I really want Pakistan to go out there and do well. I won’t criticize Pakistan’s bowling as I had said that these are our kids and will back them. These are not ODI bowlers yet. Bowling 10 overs is a different thing. We played just 12 ODIs last year. This same bowling unit will start to perform in the upcoming two or three matches. I can understand the disappointment, but don’t give up on them”.

From the Pakistan side, Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique smashed daddy hundreds to chase down the highest target in World Cup history to beat Sri Lanka by six wickets Tuesday.
