The Indian women’s hockey team continued its winning streak at the Asian Games 2023 with a thumping 6 -0 win over Malaysia at the Gongshu Canal Sports Park in Hangzhou, on Friday.
Monika, Deep Grace Ekka, Nisha, Vaishnavi Phalke, Sangita Kumariinute, and Lalremsiami scored one goal each in the 7th, 8th, 11th, 15th, 24th, and 50th minutes respectively to qualify for the semi-finals. With the win, the Indian women’s hockey team secured the top position in Pool A. The two table toppers from each pool will qualify for the semi-finals.

Earlier, the Indian women’s team beat Singapore 13-0 in the opener on Wednesday. This is India’s second win in the continental multi-sports event in the women’s hockey tournament.

India stands at the seventh position in the women’s hockey rankings made a strong start and took the early lead in the 6th minute of the match. Monika received a pass inside the opponent’s half and slotted it to take the 1-0 lead for India.

Meanwhile, Malaysia ranked 18th in the world rankings, pushing forward in search to level the score, but India rattled the Malaysian defense and netted three more goals with the help of Deep Grace Ekka, Nisha, and Vaishnavi Phalke. The first quarter ended 4-0 in India’s favour.
India continued to exert pressure in the second half on the Malaysian backline. After a brief resistance from the Malaysian defense, India found their way back into the game with Sangita Kumari scoring for the Indian side.
After half-time, the Indian team completely controlled the game and added another goal after Lalremsiami scored in the 50th minute in the final quarter to wrap up the game.
