The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) that England batsman Harry Brook has been banned from the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the next two years. Under the new policy of the BCCI, Brook will no longer be able to participate in the IPL auction for two years, as he has withdrawn his name at the last minute for this season.
A BCCI official told The Indian Express, "The official notice of Brook's two-year ban has been sent to the ECB and the player. All players were informed about this rule before the auction. This is part of the board's policy and has to be followed by all. "
According to the new rules implemented by the IPL, any player who declares himself unavailable if selected in the team after registering his name in the auction will be barred from participating in the IPL for two seasons.
Harry Brook has been out of the IPL for the second consecutive year. This year, he was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 6.25 crore, while last time he was signed for Rs 4 crore. He has taken this decision to prioritize his commitments with the England cricket team.
"It was very difficult for me to handle the decision of withdrawl from the IPL" I apologise to Delhi Capitals and their fans. I love cricket so much and playing for England is my priority. I have taken this decision after consulting people close to me. This is a very important time for English cricket and I have to focus on preparing for my upcoming series. "
Brooke's decision has caused a major setback to Delhi Capitals. Last year, due to family reasons, he withdrew from the IPL, and this time he has done the same. The 2025 season of the IPL starts on March 22. Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore will face face-to-face in the first match.
