Aussie cricket legend David Warner made a heroic entrance at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Friday by arriving in a helicopter for the Big Bash League (BBL) clash between Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers. The dramatic arrival followed Warner's attendance at his brother's wedding earlier that day. The helicopter landed on the SCG outfield, close to the "Thanks Dave" logo painted during Warner's farewell Test match.

Warner's larger-than-personality

Speaking to Channel 7, Warner expressed his determination to make the most of his limited appearances for Thunder this season. "I've done my utmost best to get down here and hopefully put some runs on the board," he said. "I might look like a bit of a goose if I don't get any runs, but it's my contribution to not just the BBL but Australian cricket. I want to be out here. I want to entertain. I want to try and help our team win the next three games."

First appearance after Tests' retirement

Warner's commitment to Thunder is evident, considering the fact that he signed a massive two-year deal with the team before the last season. This match is one of his three scheduled appearances for the team after his Test retirement. Although Thunder's chances of qualifying for the knockouts are slim, Warner's presence undoubtedly boosts their morale and excitement.

However, due to his prior commitment to play in the ILT20 in UAE, Warner will miss the potential knockout matches for Thunder. Adding to this, reports also claimed that he might also miss the ILT20 to participate in the upcoming T20I series against West Indies.

Despite these uncertainties, Warner's Thunder teammate Gurinder Sandhu emphasised the value of his presence. "He's going to a lot of effort to come and play for us," Sandhu said. "We love having him here. Last year he was awesome for us, maybe didn't score as many runs as he would have liked, but around the group and passing on knowledge was awesome to have him around. He's one of the better teammen. All the fans get to enjoy him playing cricket."

Meanwhile, Sean Abbott, a player for the rival Sydney Sixers, couldn't resist adding a touch of humour to the situation. "He is a bit Hollywood, isn't he, that's very Davey," Abbott joked a day before the match. "I got the Lime bike in today and I'll be doing the same tomorrow night and riding out the gate as Davey lands."
