Yes, you've read it right. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and former Indian captain MS Dhoni are among the applicants for India's high-profile role of men's cricket team's head coach. Really? The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has received over 3000 applications for the head coach position, according to reports. The list also includes master blaster Sachin Tendulkar and many cricket greats. It is believed that applicants are parodies, however, these have gained attention across the country.

Where is the loophole?

BCCI has initiated the recruitment process for the head coach position keeping in mind that current head coach Rahul Dravid's tenure will end with the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2024. The BCCI had opened applications publicly through online form. The pranksters find it as a loophole to submit the entries of high-profile figures.

Several media reports claimed that former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has also applied for the role. However, it was also a prank. The list also includes the likes of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir.

Last year, the BCCI faced a situation where imposters applied, and the scenario is similar this year. The BCCI used Google Forms to invite applications as it allows for easy scrutiny of applicant names on a single sheet, according to a BCCI official.

What are the responsibilities of coach?

The responsibilities of the coach, as outlined in a recent BCCI advertisement, include developing a world-class Indian cricket team that consistently achieves success across all conditions and formats. The role involves inspiring current and future generations of cricketers and stakeholders with their approach to the game. The Head Coach will have overall responsibility for the performance and management of the India Men's team in all three formats.

What has Jay Shah said?

On the other hand, BCCI hasn't released any official confirmation regarding the names. Earlier, BCCI secretary Jay Shah refused the involvement of Australian players for the role. He stated that no former Australian cricketers were contacted for the role.
