The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has put forward an unconventional proposal to remove the toss from the CK Nayudu Trophy domestic competition. Instead, the visiting team will have the privilege to decide whether to bat or bowl first. As per the proposal submitted by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, the CK Nayudu Trophy matches will see the elimination of the toss, aiming to create a fairer playing field.

Moreover, a new points system is set to be introduced to promote balanced performances, rewarding both batting and bowling performances in the first innings.

Expansion to Ranji Trophy

Shah hinted at the possibility of extending the new points system to the prestigious Ranji Trophy after a review at the end of the season. This move aligns with the board's commitment to enhancing the competitiveness and integrity of domestic cricket. Responding to concerns raised by domestic captains regarding the frequency of matches, the BCCI proposes to introduce longer gaps between games. This adjustment aims to provide players with adequate recovery time and maintain their performance levels throughout the season.

Weather considerations for the match

The committee acknowledged challenges posed by adverse weather conditions, particularly in North Zone states, the BCCI plans to optimize match scheduling to minimize disruptions. It includes exploring venues in weather-friendly cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru for hosting matches.

The upcoming domestic season is slated to commence with the Duleep Trophy competition, followed by the Irani Cup and Ranji Trophy. The season will culminate with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, ensuring a comprehensive and balanced cricket calendar.

Women's cricket overhaul

The proposal also says national selectors will choose women's teams for inter-zonal events In the note, Shah proposed that all women's inter-zonal tournaments will have teams selected by the national sectors. This will be included in all formats including T20 and one-day and all formats of the game.
