Virat Kohli cemented his position as one of the best number four batsmen in Test history by scoring a sublime century during the second Test match against West Indies.

Kohli completed his century on the second day of the Test match in what was his 500th international match, marking his 76th international ton.

Kohli’s dominating performance added another feather to his cap – his innings of 121 from 206 balls was his 29th century in Test format, which is the fourth highest by Test players playing at the coveted number four position.

Kohli, who has 25 Test centuries batting at the No. 4 spot, overtook the legendary West Indian batsman Brian Lara, who retired with 24 centuries. The Indian superstar is now behind three cricketing legends – Sachin Tendulkar (44 centuries), Jacques Kallis (35 centuries), and Mahela Jayawardene (30 centuries).

Virat Kohli takes huge lead from ‘fab four’ group

Virat Kohli had taken over the number four spot in the Indian Test team from Tendulkar and has since become the leading player in that position in the longest format of the game. He, along with England’s Joe Root, Australia’s Steve Smith, and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, form the ‘Fab 4’ group.

Kohli’s 25 Test tons at No. 4 is some ways ahead of Joe Root and Steve Smith’s record of 19 centuries, while Kane Williamson plays at No. 3 in Test matches.
