According to a source, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had to postpone their only practice session before the match due to security concerns as they prepared for their IPL 2024 Eliminator match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR). The RCB decided to call off the practice due to worries about Virat Kohli's safety. Prior to the eliminator on Wednesday, RCB was scheduled to practice at the Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad on Tuesday; however, they were unable to proceed with the scheduled practice.

Is Virat in danger?

Many were left perplexed by the unexpected event, as Anandabazaar Patrika claims that the franchise cancelled a news conference on the eve of the Eliminator game against the Royals because of the security concern. According to the report, Virat's security was the main rationale given by the Gujarat Police for calling off the press conference and the practice session. In addition, four Ahmedabad residents were reportedly detained by the police on suspicion of engaging in terrorist activities.

Security comes first

Bengaluru and Rajasthan, two IPL teams, were notified by the police. Bengaluru responded to the alert by cancelling all of its scheduled events for the day, but Rajasthan carried on with its plans. "Virat Kohli arrived in Ahmedabad and heard about the arrests. Our top concern is to ensure his safety because he is a national treasure, according to police officer Vijay Singha Jwala. "RCB was unwilling to take a chance. They said there would not be a practice session. Although the Rajasthan Royals were also made aware of the development, they continued their practice without incident."

RCB and contoversy

The security measures outside the RCB team hotel were also reinforced by the police. It was apparently forbidden for even IPL-accredited members to enter the team hotel. It was reported that a "green corridor" had been established to allow the Rajasthan Royals to access the training area.

Some players, including Riyan Parag, Yuzvendra Chahal, and R. Ashwin, apparently opted to forego the practice session and stay at the hotel. Captain Sanju Samson arrived at the scene belatedly. Strict security protocols are anticipated to be used for Wednesday's IPL 2024 eliminator match between RCB and RR as well.
