Indian batsman Virat Kohli will play the 500th international match of his career when he takes the field in the second and final Test match of the West Indies vs India series on Thursday.

Virat Kohli will become only the fourth Indian cricketer and tenth player overall to achieve this feat of playing 500 international games, joining the ‘500 club’ of Sachin Tendulkar (664 matches), MS Dhoni (538 matches), and Rahul Dravid (509 matches).

The other international players to reach the 500 mark include the Sri Lankan trio of Mahela Jayawardena (652), Kumar Sangakkara (594), and Sanath Jayasuriya (586), as well as Ricky Ponting (560), Shahid Afridi (524), and Jacques Kallis (519).

8000+ runs, 48+ average: Virat Kohli’s Test career figures

The former Indian team captain has played 110 Test matches for India, scoring 5,555 runs with a batting average of 48.8. Those figures include 28 centuries and 29 half-centuries, as well as 7 double centuries – the highest by an Indian batsman. He is India’s fight-highest run-scorer in Test matches.

Other than impressing as a Test batsman, Kohli has also shined as a Test captain, leading the country in 68 Test matches. Of those matches, Kohli has won 40 matches, losing only 17 and drawing 11 – a win percentage of 58.82%, which is one of the best among Indian captains.

Kohli’s glittering ODI and T20I career in numbers

Other than Test matches, Kohli has also been India’s star in ODI and T20 International matches. Kohli has played 274 ODI matches, scoring 12,898 runs with a batting average of 57.32. Those include 46 centuries and 65 half-centuries. He is the second-highest Indian run-scorer in ODI cricket, and the fifth-highest overall.

He has multiple laurels to his name, being the first player in ODI cricket to score 8,000 runs (175 matches), 9,000 runs (194 matches), 10,000 runs (205 matches), 11,000 runs (222 matches), and 12,000 runs (242 matches).

In 115 T20I matches, Kohli has scored 4,008 runs, with a batting average of 52.73. He has scored one century and 37 half-centuries, with a record 38 scores of 50+.
