Cricket fans were treated to a double dose of news on Thursday. Star batsman Virat Kohli made a triumphant return to the T20I format, but only for the last two matches of the upcoming series against Afghanistan. As India's star batter Virat Kohli marked his return to the T20I setup today, he will skip the opening match against Afghanistan due to personal reasons. This is all because, the occasion coincided with the third birthday of his daughter, Vamika, whom Kohli and his wife, actress Anushka Sharma, have shielded from public exposure on social media. Netizens and fans are eagerly awaiting for the power couple to reveal the face of their baby Vamika. However, the wait is still on.

Why Viral and Anushka don’t want to reveal Vamika in public?

Kohli's last T20I appearance came at the T20 World Cup in November 2022. He has been vocal about prioritising his family and mental well-being, and in 2021, explained his decision to keep Vamika off social media, stating, "We have decided as a couple to not expose our child to social media before she has an understanding of what it is and can make her own choice."

Here’s what Head Coach Rahul Dravid said on Virat’s entry in T20:

While Kohli's absence was felt in the opening match, which India won by 66 runs, fans can expect him back for the remaining two games of the series. Head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed that young Yashasvi Jaiswal will open alongside captain Rohit Sharma in Kohli's place.

Dravid also revealed that the success of players in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) will be a factor in team selection for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Despite only playing one T20I series before the tournament, Dravid emphasised the importance of the IPL in assessing players' form and fitness.

India's squad for the remaining two T20Is against Afghanistan remains unchanged, with Kohli rejoining the ranks. The team will be looking to build on their dominant performance in the first match and secure a series win before heading into the IPL season.
