India’s Anush Agarwalla created history by winning bronze in the Dressage Individual event at TL Equestrian Center in Hangzhou on September 28.

This was the second medal for the 24-year-old at Asian Games 2023. His bronze at the event is the first time India has won a medal in the Dressage Individual event.

Earlier on Tuesday, Anush combined with Hriday Chheda, Divyakriti Singh, and Sudipti Hajela to win India’s first gold medal in equestrian at the Asain Games since 1982 in the team dressage event.

Anush Agarwalla and his horse Etro scored an average of 73.030 – 69.900 in the technical segment and 76.160 in the artistic segment to clinch bronze.

Gold for Malaysia

Malaysian Qabil Ambak won the gold medal with the top score of 75.780 while Jacqueline Wing Ying Siu of Hong Kong secured the second position and won silver with 73.450. Interestingly, it was Ying Siu who won the gold in the Asian games at Jakarta 2018 while Qabil Ambak managed to settle for a silver.

India’s Hriday Chheda, who held the top position on Thursday’s intermediate 1 stage, had to face disappointment and was eliminated in the final freestyle round for the medals.

Similarly, Divyakriti Singh, who finished 11th in the intermediate 1 stage, was eliminated in Thursday’s medal round. Meanwhile, Sudipti Hajela was eliminated in the intermediate 1 stage and did not succeed in making the freestyle segment.

This is India’s 14th medal in Equestrian at the Asian Games since 1951 but the first-ever in individual dressage.
