On Monday, New Zealand knocked out Bangladesh by five wickets in a central Group A fight in Rawalpindi contesting for a spot in the semifinal along with India. At the same time, the hosts Pakistan were already eliminated from the tournament following their defeat by India.
India shall play the first semifinal on March 4, in Dubai while New Zealand is set to play the second semifinal on March 5 in Lahore. The departure of both Pakistan and Bangladesh leaves the tournament with only two confirmed semifinalists from Group A.
The last match in the head to head contest between these two countries will be played on February 27 in Rawalpindi. Even after two wins each, both teams did not manage to get enough points to surpass the group and bow out to the competition.
With the bat, Rachin Ravindra, who missed three matches owing to a head injury he suffered in the Pakistan Tri-Nation Series, made a remarkable return by scoring a sensational century. Some of New Zealand's victory was built on another superb Bolt-like performance by Michael Bracewell, whose exceptional bowling saw him take four wickets for 26 runs in his ten-over spell.
