The World Aquatics Championships, which also include diving, open water swimming, synchronised swimming, and water polo, will be held in Singapore for the first time in Southeast Asia. Dates in detail have not yet been verified.

Husain Al-Musallam, President of World Aquatics said, “We couldn’t be happier to know that the hosting of our primary event for 2025 is in such good hands, thanks to the team here in Singapore.”

The right to host the championships was taken away from Kazan last year due to sanctions imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

The following World Cups will be held in Fukoaka, Japan, in July 2024, and Budapest will host in 2027.

The events will be staged in a Southeast Asian city for the first time. More than 2,500 competitors are anticipated to compete. The World Championships for aquatic sports, including swimming, diving, high diving, open water swimming, artistic swimming, and water polo, are known as the FINA World Championships or World Aquatics Championships. All swimming competitions take place in a long course (50-metre) pool, which is managed by World Aquatics.

2022 World Aquatics Championships

The 19th FINA World Aquatics Championships took place in Budapest, Hungary, from June 17 to July 3, 2022, and were known as the World Aquatics Championships of 2022.

To ensure that athletes have a world aquatics championship to aim for in the summer of 2022, Budapest was announced as the host of an unusual out-of-sequence championship to be held from 18 June to 3 July 2022 on February 7, 2022, by FINA.

Budapest hosted the competitions for the second time and it will do it once more in 2027.

Where was it held for the first time

It was initially held in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, in 1973, and it now takes place every two years. The World Championships were contested every four years, on even years between the Summer Olympic years, from 1978 to 1998. The Championships have been contested every two years, in the odd years, since 2001.

The Covid-19 pandemic had an impact on both the Olympic Games and the Championships, which caused some erratic scheduling between 2019 and 2025. For example, the World Championships were postponed from Japan in 2021 to 2020 Summer Olympics, and then again to 2023 due to pandemic-related problems in Japan.
