Pakistani skipper Babar Azam was leading the ODI Batting Ranking at the start of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. However, Azam’s rating has been reduced to just six rating points as India's Shubman Gill along with the many players climbs up the ladder. Azam currently holds the top position with 829 points.
Despite scoring 157 runs in five innings in the Cricket World Cup this season, he was seen scoring a fighting 74 in a losing side against Afghanistan in Chennai in the recent match between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Gill has scored 95 runs from the three matches it played for India with his score improving to 823 rating points with his most recent achievement being his exceptional knock of 53 against Bangladesh in Pune.
While Pakistan’s Babar and India’s Gill occupy the top two ranks, South African opener Quinton de Kock is within the Pakistan skipper's reach as he sits in third place on the rankings for ODI batters following an incredible start to the World Cup that has already seen him score three astounding centuries.
Right after Quinton de Kock is his teammate Heinrich Klaasen who moved up seven places to be the fourth-highest ODI Batter. On the other hand, India’s star batter Virat Kohli and Australia’s David Warner share the fifth place. Kohli moved up three spots while Warner improved by two spots.
Ever-reliable middle-order batter Daryl Mitchell is another player on the rise, with the Kiwi power hitter jumping 16 places to 13th overall after 268 runs from four innings at the World Cup.
In terms of the ODI Bowler Rankings, Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood maintains a narrow lead at the top with his nearest rival at second position being India’s quick Mohammed Siraj. India’s star bowler, Siraj has secured the second spot after picking up six wickets from five appearances at the World Cup.
In the third place lies South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj who rose two places to third and a new career-high rating following his seven wickets at the tournament.
Afghanistan's experienced cricketer Mohammad Nabi and Australia spinner Adam Zampa also made it to the top 10.
