New Delhi: Bangladesh's star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, known for his fiery temperament, once again let his emotions get the better of him on Day 5 of the first Test against Pakistan. In a tense moment on the field, Shakib's frustration boiled over as Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan took his time to prepare for a delivery, leading to a heated exchange between the players.

As Bangladesh pressed for quick wickets to secure a series-opening victory, Rizwan's deliberate delay tactics seemed to get under Shakib's skin. During the 33rd over of Pakistan's second innings, an irritated Shakib hurled the ball in Rizwan's direction, with it soaring over the batsman’s head. The act of aggression didn’t go unnoticed, as the on-field umpire promptly intervened, giving Shakib a stern reprimand for his unsportsmanlike conduct.

Bangladesh's battle on Day 5

Bangladesh had set the stage for a potential win after gaining a 117-run lead in the first innings, putting significant pressure on Pakistan on the final day. Despite the visiting bowlers’ success in reducing Pakistan to 148. Bangladesh needs 30 runs to win the Test match.

Bangladesh's strong batting performance

Earlier in the match, Bangladesh had posted a formidable 565 runs in their first innings, responding to Pakistan's 448/6. Key contributions from Mushfiqur Rahim (191), Shadman Islam (93), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (77), Litton Das (56), and Mominul Haque (50) had put Bangladesh in a commanding position. Pakistan's bowlers, despite their efforts, struggled to break the partnerships that held the innings together.

Pitch controversy

Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah voiced his frustration with the pitch conditions, criticizing the curator and the board for failing to prepare a wicket that would have given the home team a decisive advantage.
