Sachin on Virat: "... a lot of cricket and runs left in him"

India's legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar expressed his happiness as stalwart batter Virat Kohli surpassed his record for the most centuries in the one-day internationals (ODI) and added that Kohli still had plenty of cricket left in him. 

Nightmare of World Cup final

However, 'Men in Blue' faced yet another heartbreaking defeat against Australia in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. India was hosting the tournament. 

Fans witnessed Virat's consistent impeccable performance throughout the tournament, breaking numerous batting records as he became the first batter to smash 50 ODI centuries in the format. 

Sachin lauds Virat 

In a video interview by ESPNCricinfo, Sachin Tendulkar said that he is happy that an Indian broke his record so that record will stay with Indian. The legendary batter still feels that India's star batter has a lot to offer to Indian cricket.

Tendulkar said, "I am so pleased he has been able to do that. I am sure that the journey has not stopped. There is a lot of cricket left in him, a lot of runs left in him. A lot of hunger and desire to achieve more for the country. I am happy that the record continues to stay with India. I have always said that the record belongs to India and it has stayed with India."

'King Kohli' rules in ODIs

'King Kohli' was the leading run-getter of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The 35-year-old scored 765 runs at an average of 95.62, including three hundreds and six fifties in 11 matches. His top score was 117 against New Zealand.

Surpassing Sachin's total of 673 runs in World Cup 2023, Virat scored the most runs in a single edition of the Cricket World Cup. The star Indian batter also surpassed Sachin's record to register the most fifty-plus scores in a single World Cup edition.

Virat Kohli has been in brilliant form as he scored 1377 runs at an average of 72.47 and with a strike rate of almost 100 in just 27 ODIs. The modern-day great has hammered six tons and eight fifties in 24 outings, with the best score of 166*.
