Five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) have had a rough start in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Hardik Pandya-led team has lost three matches in a row. They lost their first match by six runs against Gujarat Titans and faced big defeats against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals in the next two games.
Before the season began, MI made a change in leadership and appointed Hardik Pandya as their new skipper instead of Rohit Sharma, who led them to five IPL titles. However, this decision didn't sit well with the fans, who are continuously booing Pandya, especially after his poor performance. Moreover, fans didn't like the decision to replace 'Hitman' from captaincy.
During their first home game against Rajasthan, Pandya faced huge criticism from the fans, who booed him throughout the match. This seemed to affect Pandya visibly, and former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary noticed it.
Tiwary stated that Hardik may be feeling pressure. If he hasn't bowled in the first two matches despite favorable conditions, it indicates the pressure he's under. Furthermore, he said that Rohit Sharma might be reinstated as captain instead of Hardik Pandya.
Tiwary pointed out that franchises and owners often make quick changes after poor performances. He mentioned that it's a big decision to change the captain, especially after Rohit's success, but with MI's current performance, it might be necessary.
Currently, Mumbai is at the bottom of the points table, having lost all three matches. They will play against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, April 07 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
