The highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash between India and Pakistan has already witnessed an unexpected record even before the match began. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma set an unfortunate milestone as he became the first captain in cricket history to lose 12 consecutive tosses in One Day Internationals (ODIs).

During the pre-match toss, Pakistan's captain Mohammad Rizwan called it right and opted to bat first, extending Rohit’s streak of bad luck. With this, India surpassed the Netherlands' previous record of 11 consecutive ODI toss defeats, making them the first team to lose 12 tosses in a row in the format.

Rohit Sharma’s unfortunate streak

Since the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma has failed to win a single toss. India’s persistent misfortune at the toss has now placed them at the top of an undesirable list, overtaking the Netherlands, who endured 11 consecutive toss losses between March 2011 and August 2013.

This record adds an unexpected statistic to Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, as the team struggles with factors beyond just on-field performance. While a lost toss does not determine the outcome of a match, it certainly impacts strategies, especially in crucial tournaments like the Champions Trophy.

India aims for victory against Pakistan

Despite this statistical setback, Team India remains focused on securing a victory against arch-rivals Pakistan. A win in this high-stakes match would significantly boost their chances of securing a spot in the semi-finals. However, with both teams bringing their best game to the table, this encounter is set to be anything but easy.
