Revisiting Sam Mewis' achievements post her retirement announcement

Due to a knee injury, U.S. Women's Soccer player Sam Mewis has announced retirement. Read below to learn about her successful soccer career.

Sam Mewis has had a wonderful soccer career and has accomplished many achievements. Her performance on the field has been outstanding and has inspired females all over the world. Back in 2022, Sam Mewis suffered from a knee injury, and over time the injury became chronic. In January 2023 she underwent a major surgery for her knee. Post this she did not return to the field and has now announced that she will be taking retirement. Recently the football star has embarked on a new journey as Editor-in-Chief of The Womens in Game.

Awards Won By Sam Mewis:

2020 - U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year 

Fans and the media cast their votes to decide the winner of this award. Mewis was recognized as a top female player in the United States that year. 

2023 - Best International Women's Soccer Player ESPN Award

This honor celebrates the best international female soccer player and the American public decides the winner. ESPN, being a big name is telling of how prestigious this award is. 

2015 - Honda Award for Soccer 

This esteemed award is presented to America's top female college soccer player every year. Sam Mewis was a renowned player in her college days as well. 

2016, 2018, 2019 - NWSL Championship  

Previously Mewis has taken part in three NWSL championship-winning teams. Teams such as Western New York Flash and North Carolina Courage.

2020 - FA Cup Winner 

Mewis scored in this FA Cup final, which made her the third American and second American woman to score in an FA Cup final.

Sam Mewis has earned more awards apart from the individual ones mentioned above, such as team awards. Being a sportsperson Mewis is a fit and mentally strong individual. Although this has not been reported, here is to hoping that she returns the the soccer field one day.
