In preparation for their highly anticipated match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) during this season’s lucrative tournament, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have enlisted a former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) player to replace David Willey for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This announcement was made on Monday, with Faf Du Plessis’ RCB team scheduled to compete against KL Rahul’s LSG in the 43rd match of the IPL 2023 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.

As they gear up to face the formidable Lucknow team, Faf Du Plessis and his team have secured the signing of Indian batsman Kedar Jadhav to replace David Willey. Willey’s impact was limited, having only played four matches and taking three wickets for RCB. As per an IPL media advisory, Jadhav, a former all-rounder for the Chennai Super Kings, has been acquired by RCB for INR 1 crore.

Did you know? Willey replaced Jadhav at CSK in 2018

During the 2018 season of the IPL, Willey filled in for Jadhav at the Chennai Super Kings after Jadhav suffered an injury. In contrast, Willey himself sustained a toe injury while playing for RCB in the IPL 2023. Jadhav, who was previously unsold in the IPL auctions for both 2022 and 2023, has now been brought in as Willey’s replacement for the remainder of the 2023 season. Jadhav has a history with RCB, having previously represented them in 17 IPL matches. The Indian all-rounder made his IPL debut in 2010 and has since played in 93 matches in the tournament, amassing a total of 1196 runs.

The 38-year-old player has previously played for several IPL teams, including Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Kochi Tuskers Kerala. Jadhav has also represented Team India in 73 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 73 T20Is. His most recent IPL appearance was during a match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in 2021.

The team led by Virat Kohli, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), is currently positioned sixth on the points table for the IPL 2023 season. With veteran South African batsman Du Plessis at the helm, the Bangalore franchise has achieved four victories and suffered four losses thus far in the tournament. When RCB faced off against KL Rahul’s LSG team in the IPL 2023 at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, the latter secured a remarkable victory on the final ball of a high-scoring match.
