IND vs ENG: Team India is gearing up for an intense clash against England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled for Thursday, June 27 at Providence Stadium, Guyana. This match is anticipated to be a thrilling showdown between two formidable white-ball teams. India has been brilliant throughout the tournament while England's journey has been a roller coaster ride. The defending champions haven't been at their best.

Weather concerns loom over semi-final

Despite the excitement, there are concerns about inclement weather affecting the match. According to weather forecasts from weather.com, there's a significant likelihood of rain throughout the day, with chances peaking at 60% during match time. The game is slated to start at 10:30 am local time (8:00 PM IST), with rain chances remaining high at 58% by noon local time, posing a risk of interruptions.

ICC's contingency plans

To mitigate potential disruptions, the ICC has allocated an extra 250 minutes for both semi-finals, allowing ample time for ground preparations if weather permits.

What if IND vs ENG gets washed out?

If the match is washed out due to rain, the team that finished higher in their respective Super 8 group standings will progress to the final, as per clause 16.10.7 of the ICC’s T20 World Cup 2024 playing conditions. In this scenario, India, who topped Super 8 Group 1 by winning all their matches, would advance.

England, who secured the second position in their group with two wins out of three matches, would have to rely on favorable weather conditions for a full game.

Superover and further scenarios

In the event of a tie in the semi-final, teams will engage in a Super Over to determine the finalist, according to clause 16.3.1.2 and Appendix F of the ICC’s playing conditions. If weather prevents the completion of the Super Over or if the match is abandoned or declared a no-result after a tie, the team that finished first in their Second Round group will progress to the final.
