PCB: Imad Wasim announces retirement from international cricket

Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket on Friday. The 34-year-old confirmed via a post on microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter).

The caption reads, “In recent days, I have been doing a lot of thinking about my international career and I have come to the conclusion that now is the right time for me to announce my retirement from international cricket.” 

The Pakistani allrounder expressed his gratitude to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their support over the years, adding, "It has truly been an honor to represent Pakistan". 

Furthermore, Wasim added, "Each of my 121 appearances across the one-day international (ODI) and T20 formats was a dream come true. I now look forward to focusing on the next stage of my playing career away from the international stage."

The Pakistani allrounder's announcement comes amid a shuffle in Pakistan cricket's aftermath of the disastrous ODI World Cup campaign. Earlier, Babar Azam quit the national team’s captaincy in all three formats.

Followed by Babar's announcement, the PCB appointed opener Shan Masood as Test skipper, while T20I's captaincy was handed to speedster Shaheen Shah Afridi. Former captain Mohammad Hafeez replaced Mickey Arthur from team director's post, while former fast bowler Wahab Riaz was appointed as Pakistan's chief selector.
