New Delhi: India has scripted history at the Paris Paralympics, surpassing its previous record of 19 medals from the Tokyo edition in 2021. The Indian contingent has now secured 20 medals, including three gold, seven silver, and ten bronze, with more opportunities to extend this tally further.

India's representation in Paris paralympics

In Tokyo, India had achieved its best-ever Paralympic performance with a total of 19 medals. However, the Paris Games have seen an even greater surge in achievements. Para-shooter Avani Lekhara opened India's gold medal account, dominating the women's 10m air rifle event with a personal best score of 249.7 points. Mona Agarwal followed closely, securing bronze in the same event.

In shooting, Manish Narwal won silver in the men's 10m air pistol SH1 category, recovering from a mid-match slump to finish strong. Rubina Francis also shone, claiming bronze in the women's 10m air pistol SH-1 final.

Performance of competitors

Preeti Pal excelled on the track, winning bronze in both the 100m and 200m T35 events. Meanwhile, Nishad Kumar earned silver in the men's high jump T47 with a leap of 2.04m.

In the field events, Yogesh Kathuniya clinched silver in the men's discus throw F56. The javelin throw also brought glory, with Sumit Antil defending his gold medal in the F64 final.

India's para-badminton team contributed significantly to the medal tally. Nitesh won gold in the men's singles SL3 category, while Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manisha secured silver and bronze in their respective events.
