Paris Olympics 2024: In an exciting turn of events at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Indian women's table tennis team, featuring Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula, and Archana Kamath, clinched a thrilling 3-2 victory over Romania to advance to the quarterfinals. The team’s outstanding performance on Monday has secured their place in the ongoing competition.

Strong start by Akula, Kamath

The Indian team got off to a strong start with the dynamic duo of Sreeja Akula and Archana Kamath delivering a commanding performance against Romania's Diaconu Adina and Samara Elizabeta. They dominated the match with a straight-sets victory of 3-0, winning the games 11-9, 12-10, and 11-7, setting the tone for the rest of the encounter.

Manika Batra shines again

Manika Batra, known for her consistency and skill, showcased her prowess by defeating Szocs Bernadette in a stellar display. She dominated the match, winning all three games with scores of 11-5, 11-7, and 11-7, putting India in a strong position.

Romania fights back

Despite the early success, Sreeja Akula faced challenges in her second match. Showing signs of fatigue, she struggled against Samara Elizabeta, who exploited her weakness in backhand smashes. Samara emerged victorious with a 3-2 win, keeping Romania’s hopes alive.

Archana Kamath then took the stage, initially losing the first set but rallying to win the second. However, the Romanian opponent used strategic plays and powerful smashes to win the subsequent sets, claiming the match 3-1 with scores of 11-5, 8-11, 11-7, and 11-9, pushing the tie into a decisive final game.

Manika Batra seals victory

With the pressure mounting, it was Manika Batra who stepped up to secure India's victory. Known for thriving under pressure, Batra won the first game with a comfortable six-point margin. Despite a tough challenge from Bernadette in the second game, which was tied at 9-9, Batra maintained her composure to win. In the final game, with the score tied at 5-5, Batra pulled ahead to win 11-8, sealing India’s place in the semifinals.
