Paris 2024: The Paris 2024 Organising Committee has revealed the extraordinary design behind the Olympic and Paralympic medals, which will be awarded at the upcoming Games. The medals were disclosed on Thursday 8, February at the headquarters of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee.
Maintaining the conventional gold, silver, and bronze categories, the Paris 2024 medals have a distinctive feature unlike any previous editions. Each medal will incorporate a small piece of Parisian history - a fragment of the iconic Eiffel Tower, symbolizing the essence of France itself. The president of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, Tony Estanguet said that the decision to modify the medal came in order to make it unique and singular.

Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, elucidated the significance of this decision, saying, "There was a huge amount done to try to bring together these precious metals - gold, silver, and bronze - with the most precious metal in the Eiffel Tower, the jewel in the French crown. So what’s specific about the 2024 medals is that meshing together, that fusion, that alloy."
Furthermore, he highlighted the impact of Eiffel Tower metal on the various medals that will be infused the athletes across the globe.
Five-time gold medal-winning biathlon player Martin Fourcade said that the Olympic's first approach was integral to the design of the honor.
Speaking to Olympics.com, the French biathlete said, "As usual, Paris 2024 put the athletes at the center of the project," he said. "We wanted two things: to have similar medals for Olympians and Paralympians, and for the medals to include a piece of invaluable iron.

The medals for Paris 2024 have arrived, and we don't have enough words to describe them! ✨ #Paris2024
He went on to reveal the inspirations behind the renovation of the medal. He said, "There were three major inspirations behind this: the hexagon, the influence of France, and we also wanted the medal to be like a jewel - and that’s why it is set exactly like a precious stone."
The design of the medals incorporates a hexagon-shaped piece of iron from the Eiffel Tower, embossed with the emblem of the Paris 2024 Games, alongside traditional gold, silver, and bronze elements. Radiant lines surrounding the iron hexagon symbolize France's radiance and the athletes' luminous performances.
Furthermore, both Olympic and Paralympic medals share the same design on one side, featuring the Eiffel Tower iron. Inscriptions on the edge of each medal denote the sport, discipline, and event, reflecting the multilingual ethos of the Olympic and Paralympic movements.
