PAK vs BAN: Bangladesh has secured a long-awaited victory over Pakistan in Test cricket on Sunday. This win is more than just a statistical achievement; it represents a historic breakthrough and a beacon of hope of positivity for a country, which is wrestling with political unrest. Bangladesh secured their first-ever Test win against Pakistan, clinching the match by a commanding 10 wickets in Rawalpindi.

The stage for this historic encounter was set on a rain-affected Day 1, with a batting-friendly wicket promising high scores. Pakistan’s batsmen made the most of these conditions. Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan anchored their innings with centuries, guiding Pakistan to a formidable total of 448 runs before captain Shan Masood declared. The first innings saw Pakistan’s batting line-up excel, but this performance only set the stage for Bangladesh’s remarkable response.

Bangladesh's batting prowess

Responding to Pakistan's declaration, Bangladesh showcased its batting strength in splendid fashion. Mushfiqur Rahim delivered an outstanding performance, scoring an impressive 191 runs, while Shadman Islam supported with a crucial 93. Their combined effort pushed Bangladesh to a total of 565 runs, securing a 117-run lead over Pakistan. This substantial lead provided a solid foundation as Bangladesh moved into the second innings, poised to make history.

Turning the tide

As the match progressed into Day 5, the spotlight turned to Bangladesh’s bowlers, who were tasked with defending their lead and dismissing Pakistan for a second time. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan rose to the occasion with exceptional bowling performances. They dismantled Pakistan’s batting order, capturing seven wickets between them and restricting the hosts to just 146 runs. The pressure they applied was relentless, ultimately proving too much for Pakistan’s batsmen.

Historic finish

With just 30 runs needed to seal the win, Bangladesh’s opening batsmen Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam made quick work of the target. Their unbeaten partnership ensured that Bangladesh would walk away with a historic 10-wicket victory. This win is not only a milestone for Bangladeshi cricket but also a testament to the team's resilience and skill.
