India skipper Rohit Sharma recently claimed that the resumption of a bilateral series with Pakistan will be a big boost to Test cricket as both the teams are powerhouses of Asia. In response, Pakistan's former captain Shahid Afridi has reacted to the remarks made by 'Hitman'. It is worth noting that India and Pakistan have not played in a bilateral series for over a decade. The major factor behind the hindrance is the political standoff between the two neighboring countries.
Earlier in a podcast on the Club Prairie Fire, Rohit responded to England's former skipper Michael Vaughan, who had questioned: "Don't you think India playing Pakistan regularly will be fantastic."
Rohit responded that he still believes that Pakistan is a good team with a superb bowling lineup. It will be a good contest if we play overseas. He also emphasized that the last Test was played way back in 2007-08.

He added that it would be a great contest between two cricketing nations.
Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has responded to India captain Rohit Sharma's recent remarks regarding the resumption of bilateral cricket matches between the two nations.
Afridi, in turn, praised Rohit's positive stance, emphasizing the potential for sports to bridge the gap between India and Pakistan. He highlighted the historical significance of cricket in fostering relations between the neighboring countries.
Shahid Afridi said "I appreciate Rohit Sharma's statement about Pakistan. India vs Pakistan bilateral series must start. We used to go to India and play cricket even when we had serious threats there. As padosis, we have to play against each other" 🇵🇰🇮🇳❤️#IPL2024 #PAKvNZ pic.twitter.com/85IfQ5NbHx

Afridi commended Rohit's role as an ambassador of India and echoed the sentiment that positive sporting interactions can contribute to improving bilateral ties. He emphasized the importance of nurturing a positive relationship between neighbors, underscoring the mutual right to foster good relations.
The last bilateral cricket series between India and Pakistan took place over a decade ago, with political tensions hindering regular sporting engagements. India and Pakistan last played a bilateral Test series in 2007 when Pakistan came visiting and lost 1-0. However, both teams continue to face off in international tournaments, with their upcoming encounter scheduled during the T20 World Cup later this year.
