Recent reports have stirred up controversy by suggesting the presence of 'anti-sex beds' in the rooms allocated to players at the upcoming Paris Olympics. According to media reports, athletes will be provided with ultra-light cardboard beds, purportedly aimed at curbing sexual activities during the event.
Allegedly, the beds are designed in twin size, leaving minimal space for athletes to sit together. Speculations arose regarding the intention behind installing these beds, with some suggesting that it aims to divert athletes' focus solely toward their sports.
The discourse surrounding 'anti-sex beds' gained traction following a tweet by Olympic runner Paul Chelimo, hinting at similar measures implemented during the Tokyo Olympics to deter sexual activity among athletes. Such claims were further fueled by anecdotes of romantic liaisons in the Olympic Village.
However, a fact-check conducted by USA Today debunked the notion of the cardboard beds being anti-sex measures. Contrary to speculations, the beds were primarily intended for environmental sustainability, and aimed at reducing waste generated by traditional bedding.
Meanwhile, Irish gymnast Rhys McClenaghan refuted claims of the beds being too flimsy to support sexual activities, showcasing their durability in a TikTok video. Moreover, Tokyo 2020 organizer Takashi Kitajima clarified that the beds were designed for reuse, prioritizing environmental conservation over purported anti-sex measures.
As the world eagerly anticipates the Paris Olympics, scheduled from July 26th to August 11th, approximately 10,000 athletes are set to converge in the French capital for this prestigious sporting event.
