Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings by 18 runs in the match on their home ground on 8 April. After Chennai's defeat, there is a furore now. The no-controversy is around the no-ball controversy, and it has Mahendra Singh Dhoni at the eye of the storm. Dhoni made 27 runs from 12 balls with a strike rate of 225 in the match. Dhoni, who was batting at number 5, was CSK's top strike rate batsman in this game. But, what was amiss in his ireful innings has landed the IPL administrators in the dock. CSK fans have been overflowing with anger.

The no-ball incident

This was done on the last ball of CSK's 18th over when MS Dhoni smacked a six off a full toss delivered by Lockie Ferguson. On-field umpire had initially judged it as no-ball, but then third umpire overruled it by checking the reading from waist height and the ball.

Fans outraged

CSK fans were livid with the decision and a lot of them vented their anger on social media. Some even called it "biggest scam of the year 2025." Dhoni, who made 27 runs from 12 balls at a strike rate of 225, was the highest strike rate CSK batsman on the match day. But his career has been marred by controversy regarding the no-ball. Punjab Kings have bagged 3 out of 4 wins as of now, whereas Chennai Super Kings have just one win from 5 games.
