The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to release advertisements for the new head coach of Indian men's cricket soon, reveals Jay Shah on Friday (May 10). Rahul Dravid's contract is ending after the T20 World Cup to be held in June, after which the Indian team will need a new coach. BCCI Secretary Jai Shah said that the board will soon issue an advertisement regarding the new coach.

What Jay Shah said?

Jay Shah said about Rahul Dravid that his tenure is ending in June. But, if he wants to remain the coach of the Indian team in future, he can also apply again. The BCCI Secretary further said that the decision on other members of the coaching staff like batting coach, bowling coach, fielding coach will be taken on the advice of the head coach after his selection. During these talks, Shah did not even rule out the possibility of a foreign coach.

Jai Shah said that at the moment I cannot say whether the new coach will be an Indian or a foreigner. The Cricket Advisory Committee will decide on this. However, he did not hint at any possibility of having a separate coach for each format like England and Pakistan. The reason behind this was the presence of many all-format players in the team. According to Jay Shah, having a different coach for each format can make it difficult for these players to adjust.

What will be tenure for it?

BCCI Secretary made it clear that the new head coach of Team India will be selected for the long term. His initial tenure will be at least 3 years. Rahul Dravid's first tenure was for 2 years. In the year 2021, he took over the command of coach of Team India in place of Ravi Shastri. Dravid's first tenure was till the ODI World Cup 2023. But, after this his tenure was again extended till T20 World Cup 2024.

Speculation about Jay Shah

It is also being speculated that Shah is set to become the International Cricket Council chairman in November but the 35-year-old refused to comment on the matter.
