In a jaw-dropping display of power hitting, Nepal’s batsmen created history in the opening match of the Men’s Asian Games against Mongolia, securing a huge 273-run victory. This cracker match included a series of record-breaking performances, leaving cricket fans worldwide in awe.

Nepal becomes first team to score 300 in Men’s T20

Nepal became the first-ever team to breach the 300-run mark in a men’s T20 innings. The total of 314 for 3 against Mongolia surpassed the previous record of 278, jointly held by Afghanistan (against Ireland in 2019) and Czech Republic (against Turkey in 2019).

Kushal Malla’s record-breaking Century

Kushal Malla, the young Nepali sensation, etched his name in the record books by smashing a century in just 34 balls. This blistering century is the fastest in T20 Internationals. The previous record was held jointly by David Miller, Rohit Sharma, and Czech Republic’s Sudesh Wickramasekara, who all reached their centuries in 35 balls.

Kushal Malla became the second-youngest batter to score a century in men’s T20Is at the age of 19 years and 206 days. The youngest to achieve this feat is Gustav Mckeon of France, who achieved the milestone before turning 19 in July 2022.

Dipendra Singh Airee’s lightning-fast fifty

Another Nepali star, Dipendra Singh Airee, batted explosively and reached the half-century in just 9 balls. Airee’s fifty, which featured eight sixes and no fours, is now the fastest in all T20s, surpassing the previous record of 12 balls, jointly held by Yuvraj Singh, Chris Gayle, and Hazratullah Zazai.

Record margin of victory

Nepal’s extraordinary win over Mongolia by a margin of 273 runs is historic. This is the largest margin of victory in terms of runs in T20 format, surpassing the previous record held by the Czech Republic, who secured a 257-run win against Turkey in 2019.

Six-hitting spectacle

Nepal’s batsmen exhibited a penchant for clearing the boundary ropes, collectively hitting 26 sixes in the match. This remarkable feat not only shattered the record for most sixes in a T20 international by a team but also established a new record for the most sixes in any T20 match.

Mongolia’s innings

Mongolia’s batting effort was demolished by Nepal’s dominance, with a significant portion of their total coming from extras. Out of their 41 runs, 23 came from extras which constitutes over 50%. This proportion of team runs from extras is the highest in a men’s T20I innings (minimum: five overs bowled), surpassing the previous record held by China, who had 34.6% of their runs as extras during their 26 all out against Thailand earlier this year.
