T20I: Ashish Nehra, the head coach of Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League and a former fast bowler for India, was reportedly offered the job of coaching the country's T20I team. Split coaches in Indian cricket may have become a reality for the first time if he had taken the offer. The story claims he hasn't, though.

Nehra, who guided GT to the IPL title in 2022 and led them to the final the following season, turned down the offer from the BCCI after they contacted them during the ODI World Cup final.

Head coach Rahul Dravid's tenure ends after World Cup 2023, along with fielding coach T Dilip, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey. This basically means that the Indian men's cricket team does not currently have any full-time coaches on staff. The Laxman-led NCA team is leading the current Twenty20 International series against Australia.

According to the latest reports on ESPNCricinfo, the BCCI has sent Dravid an extension. ESPN claims that this measure was taken in order to preserve procedural continuity. The article went on to say that although Dravid may or may not have accepted the extension, its duration has been left uncertain. There's a strong likelihood that his support group will remain in place if he does.

As of now, Nehra seems to have been the BCCI's first pick to lead India in the T20 World Cup the following year, but since he hasn't accepted the position, things may have changed. This will probably lead the board to adopt a wait-and-watch approach.
