Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra maintained his outstanding form on Friday by winning the renowned one-day meeting series in Lausanne after returning from a one-month injury layoff. This was Chopra’s second straight victory of the season.

Due to a muscle problem, he suffered while training last month, the 25-year-old Chopra missed three major competitions. However, he came back strong and won the Diamond League title on Friday with his fifth-round throw of 87.66 metres.

Although, he committed a foul before throwing 83.52 and 85.04 metres but achieved the target. In the fourth round, he committed another foul before making his 87.66-meter winning throw. His sixth and last throw measured 84.15 metres.

After winning the final round, Neeraj Chopra while talking to organisers said, “I was feeling a bit nervous coming back from an injury. It was a bit cold here tonight. I am still far from my best, but I feel it is getting better. I am relieved it´s coming together well for me. A win is a win and I will take that happily.”

Long jumper Sreeshankar grabbed the 3rd spot

India’s Murali Sreeshankar placed fifth in the men’s long jump with a subpar leap of 7.88m that he made in the third round. The 24-year-old Sreeshankar, who placed third in the Paris leg of the Diamond League on June 9 for his first podium result, earlier this month threw a career-best 8.41m at the National Inter-State Championships in Bhubaneswar.
