Indian ace javelin superstar Neeraj Chopra is gearing up for another gold in 11th edition of the Diamond League in Zurich, four days after winning the historic World Championship in men’s javelin in Budapest.

The Olympic champion has accomplished a lot, including winning Commonwealth Games and Asian Games gold medals, victories in both the Olympic and world championships, and even the Diamond Trophy. Neeraj has brought many first-time achievements to India.

Neeraj will appear as a world champion for the first time and is eyeing a hat-trick of victories in the Diamond League to advance to the championship match, which will take place on September 16 and 17 in Eugene. The 25-year-old athlete won last year’s Diamond League final, where he became the first Indian to win the prestigious Diamond Trophy.

Potential challengers

Neeraj will face stiff competition from the Czech star Jakub Vadlejch, who won the bronze medal with a throw of 86.67m at the World Championships and Germany’s Julian Weber. Although Arshad Nadeem will be the major missing in Zuric. Julian Weber, the Diamond League’s second-place thrower this year, is another contender. The German will be aiming to come close to her personal best of 88.72 meters after a heartbreaking fourth-place finish in Budapest.

Diamond League Standings

Neeraj Chopra currently has 16 points after winning the Doha Diamond League in May and the Lausanne Diamond League in June and stands in third place in the men’s javelin Diamond League standings. With 21 points, Vadlejch is in first place, followed by Weber, who has 19. At the conclusion of the 14-series competition, the top six in field events will advance to the final.
