Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has achieved a historic feat, further solidifying his name among the greatest bowlers in the cricketing world. With this latest milestone, Shami has surpassed several legendary bowlers, showcasing his exceptional talent and consistency on the field.
Shami has now joined an elite club by reaching 200 wickets in One Day Internationals (ODIs). He became the second-fastest bowler to achieve this landmark, reaching the milestone in just 104 matches. This record sees him surpass New Zealand’s Trent Boult, who previously held the record at 107 matches. Shami now shares the second spot with former Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq.
In addition to becoming the second-fastest in terms of matches played, Shami has also set a new benchmark for the fewest deliveries required to reach 200 ODI wickets. He accomplished the milestone in just 5,126 balls, breaking the previous record held by Australia’s Mitchell Starc, who took 5,240 deliveries. This achievement further highlights Shami’s lethal bowling prowess and efficiency.
Shami reached this milestone during a sensational performance against Bangladesh. He dismissed key batsmen Soumya Sarkar and Mehidy Hasan Miraz early in his spell, before returning to send Zakir Hasan back to the pavilion. His spell concluded with figures of 3 wickets for 68 runs, playing a crucial role in India's victory.
With this achievement, Shami has left behind cricketing greats like Waqar Younis and Brett Lee. His dedication, relentless hard work, and extraordinary skill continue to elevate him as one of the finest fast bowlers in modern-day cricket.
