Sports News: The shadow of match-fixing has once again started looming over the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has advised all teams, players, coaches, support staff and even commentators to be cautious. The suspicious activities of a Hyderabad businessman, who is suspected of being involved in corrupt activities, are being blamed for this.
According to BCCI's Anti Corruption Security Unit (ACSU), this person is trying to get close to the players and team staff by claiming himself to be an IPL fan. The report says that he is seen in hotels, matches and team events and lures the players with expensive gifts, invitations to private parties and other things. Not only this, he is also targeting the family members of the team members.
The Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) report reveals that the individual has attempted to contact relatives of certain players residing abroad. He is using social media to reach out to them, offering shares in high-end jewelry stores or hotels. This approach is believed to be part of a strategy to entice them into match-fixing deals.
BCCI has given clear instructions to all IPL franchises that if any player, staff or their family has any contact with that person, then the relevant authorities should be informed immediately. Players have been told to maintain distance from any unknown person and not accept any kind of gift.
A total of 31 matches have been played so far this season. Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants have won four matches each and have secured eight points. At the same time, Chennai Super Kings are currently at the bottom of the points table, having won only two out of seven matches. Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad also have four points each but with one match remaining.
