Young Indian shooter Manu Bhaker arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Wednesday morning to a hero's welcome. Fans gathered in large numbers to celebrate her return, reflecting the significant impact of her recent achievements in Paris.

Breaking a long-standing drought

Bhaker's performance in the Paris Olympics marked a historic moment for Indian shooting. She ended a 12-year medal drought for the Indian shooting contingent with her twin triumphs. Bhaker opened India's medal tally by securing a bronze in the 10m Air Pistol event. She then doubled her medal count by winning another bronze in the 10m Mixed Team Air Pistol event alongside Sarabjot Singh.

In her preferred 25m Air Pistol event, Bhaker narrowly missed out on a third medal, finishing in fourth place. Despite this, her two Olympic medals stand as a testament to her remarkable skill and perseverance.

Aiming for greater heights

Expressing her aspirations, Bhaker conveyed her ambition to be remembered as one of the greatest shooters. “I would like to be one of the greatest. This is just a beginning for me. I want to devote my entire life to sports and India. I am just trying my best to win as many medals as possible for my country,” Bhaker said.

Honored as flagbearer

In addition to her medals, Bhaker was honored to be named India’s official flagbearer for the Closing Ceremony of the Paris Olympics. She took to social media to thank the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for the prestigious role and shared her feelings about the opportunity.
