Liverpool's legendary manager Jurgen Klopp, on Friday, announced his shocking departure at the end of the current season. After eight and a half trophy-laden years at the club, the charismatic German has decided to leave the club. The 56-year-old said that he was "running out of energy."

The news was delivered via a club statement and an emotional on-camera address that spread like wildfire through the fanbase. Klopp assured supporters that his decision was made with meticulous consideration for both himself and the club.

Jurgen Klopp On Why He's Stepping Down As Liverpool manager

Klopp said, "I love absolutely everything about this club, I love everything about the city, I love everything about our supporters, I love the team, I love the staff. I love everything. But that I still take this decision shows you that I am convinced it is the one I have to take."

He added, "It is that I am, how can I say it, running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I knew it already for longer that I will have to announce it at one point, but I am absolutely fine now. I know that I cannot do the job again and again and again and again."

“After the years we had together and after all the time we spent together and after all the things we went through together, the respect grew for you, the love grew for you and the least I owe you is the truth – and that is the truth.”

"I felt in my gut that it was the right time," Klopp said, his voice thick with emotion. "Leaving a team after being so connected to it, after sharing so many special moments, is never easy. But I believe I owe it to myself, to the players, and to the loyal supporters to be honest and say that right now, I need a different challenge."

How Klopp changed Liverpool?

His legacy at Liverpool is undeniable. Klopp arrived in 2015, inheriting a club that had fallen from grace. He instilled a brand of high-octane and redefined club football that reignited the fire in the hearts of the Reds. His infectious enthusiasm and unwavering belief in his players transformed the club. Under the leadership of Klopp, the club clinched a Champions League trophy in 2019, followed by the long-awaited Premier League title in 2020.

Under Klopp's leadership, Liverpool evolved from a sleeping giant into a global force. He nurtured young talent like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson and revitalized veterans like James Milner and Jordan Henderson. He also brought out the best in players like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk. He created a team that played with heart, and soul that captivated audiences worldwide.

What next?

While the future remains uncertain, Liverpool faces this transition with gratitude and respect for Klopp's immense contribution. The search for his successor has already begun, but replacing a figure of such stature will be no easy feat. Meanwhile, the assistant managers Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz will also leave at the end of the season. Lijnders expressed that he wants to pursue a managerial career. The elite development coach Vitor Matos will be leaving as well.
