Kapil Dev on Rohit, Virat: The legendary captain of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, Kapil Dev, has weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding the inclusion of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the T20 World Cup squad, emphasising that the final decision rests with the selectors.

After the disappointment in the ODI World Cup, India now faces the challenge of regrouping and preparing for the T20 World Cup, slated to be held in the West Indies and the US. The discussion centres on the participation of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who have been absent from T20 cricket for over a year.

Selector's Decision Crucial

Speaking at an event, Kapil Dev remarked, "This depends on the selectors; we can't put our finger everywhere. It is their decision; they should do what they feel is right." The selectors will play a crucial role in determining whether the experienced batters find a place in the T20 World Cup squad.

Performance Overview

Rohit Sharma, representing Mumbai Indians, scored 332 runs in 16 matches with a batting average of 20.75. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, the longest-serving player for Royal Challengers Bangalore, impressed with 639 runs in 14 matches at an average of 53.25. Virat was also a standout performer in the 2022 T20 World Cup, finishing as the highest run-scorer with 296 runs.

Virat's Form and Lack of T20 Game Time

Despite Virat's outstanding form, the concern surrounding his T20 World Cup selection is the lack of recent game time in the shortest format of the game. The decision will balance his remarkable ODI World Cup performance against the need for T20 match readiness.

Kapil Dev on PM Modi's Encouragement and Young Team's Performance

Kapil Dev expressed appreciation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's gesture of visiting the dressing room after India's World Cup final defeat against Australia. He stated, "If the PM doesn't encourage, then who will? He is the number one man in the country, and it feels good that he supports, and I wish that he supports golf as well."

Encouragement for Young Indian Team

Kapil lauded the young Indian team for their impressive performances against Australia in the first two T20Is of the five-match series. While celebrating their victories, he also urged the team to identify and rectify any flaws to ensure continued success.

The final decision on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's inclusion in the T20 World Cup squad remains in the hands of the selectors, adding an element of anticipation to the upcoming tournament preparations.
