IPL 2025

Sports News: Almost half of the IPL 2025 season has passed. But in the middle of the season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has suddenly made a big change in a rule. This is a change that can prove to be a problem for the batsmen. According to a report, the BCCI has made it clear to the umpires monitoring the IPL match that if a batsman is run out on non-strike, they will not ask the captain of the fielding team to withdraw the appeal.

A report by Cricbuzz states that in the middle of the tournament, the BCCI discussed several issues in a review meeting with the umpires. So far, the change in the rule of checking the size of the batsman's bat has made headlines, which has been implemented in the middle of the tournament. But apart from this, it has also been decided to change the rule of run out by the bowler at the non-striker's end.

Umpires will not be able to ask the captains

The report states that the BCCI has clearly told the umpires that if a batsman is run out on the non-strike end during any match, which is called Mankading, then there is no need to ask the captain to withdraw the appeal. That is, the umpire cannot ask the captain whether he wants to change his decision of run out or not. It is believed that the BCCI's attempt behind this is to make 'Mankading' as normal as the rest of the wickets.

In cases of Mankading or run out on non-strike, it has often been seen that whenever such an incident occurs, a debate on sportsmanship starts in the entire cricket world. Every time this happens, the bowler who did the run out and the captain of that team are abused for not respecting the spirit of the game. But in the last few years, voices have been raised in its favour and getting the runner out in this manner has been strongly supported.

ICC had made changes

Recently, the International Cricket Council also made a big change to normalize this type of dismissal. Earlier, this type of wicket was kept in the category of 'unfair play' but later ICC included it directly with run out, so that the debate on sportsmanship about it can be reduced and it can also be considered a normal way of getting out like methods like bowled, caught, run out or LBW.
