Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has been fined a substantial amount following a breach of the Code of Conduct during their recent IPL 2024 clash against the Chennai Super Kings at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The defending champions faced their inaugural defeat of the season under new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, following consecutive victories at home, while Pant guided Delhi to their first win of 2024 after suffering two consecutive losses away from home.

Pant incurred the fine due to his team's slow overrate during the match against CSK. As this was their first offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct concerning minimum overrate violations, Pant was penalised ₹12 lakhs.

This marked the second instance of a team captain being fined for maintaining a slow over rate during an IPL match. Gujarat Titans' Shubman Gill also faced a similar penalty of INR 12 lakh for the same offence in the IPL 2024 fixture against the Chennai Super Kings at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai just last Tuesday.

Despite the disciplinary setback, Pant showcased an impressive performance with the bat, registering his maiden fifty in the IPL. This achievement was significant as he had missed the 2023 edition of the tournament due to his recovery from a severe car accident in December 2022. Pant's stellar batting, combined with a solid partnership between Prithvi Shaw and David Warner, contributed to Delhi Capitals setting a formidable target of 192 runs.
