The Indian Premier League (IPL) has announced that the 2024 player auction will take place on December 19th at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. This will be the first instance that the IPL auction is going to be held outside of India.

333 players to go under the hammer

A total of 333 cricketers will be up for auctions, including 214 Indian players and 119 overseas players. Of these 116 are capped players, 215 are uncapped, and 2 are from associate nations.

77 slots available, 30 for overseas players

The franchises have a total of 77 slots available to fill, with a maximum of 30 overseas players' slot. With 23 players opting to register themselves under the highest base price of INR 2 crore, the auction is set to provide a huge return to the athletes. Moreover, 13 players have registered under a base price of INR 1.5 crore.

Among the notable players listed in the INR 2 crore bracket are England's exciting young batsman Harry Brook and Australia's World Cup hero Travis Head.

Mini-Auctions can produce big deals

Despite being a single-day event compared to the two-day mega auctions, mini-auctions have witnessed some of the most expensive deals in IPL history, particularly for overseas players. Last year, Sam Curran became the most expensive player ever when he was bought by Punjab Kings for a whopping sum of INR 18.5 crore. Earlier, the 10 franchises collectively retained 173 players.

Auction Schedule:

  • Date: December 19th, 2023
