The player auction for cricket's highly anticipated event Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is likely to be held on December 19, with Dubai being considered as the venue. This came in as India is hosting the ICC's top event Cricket World Cup 2023. As per the reports from Sportstar, all 10 franchises have been requested to submit their list of retained and released players by November 15, after which the auction pool is expected to be released by the first week of December.

Meanwhile, the franchises claimed that they are yet to receive any final official word from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about the date for the auction. However, they are aware that informally they heard of the December 15-20 window.

Last year, the BCCI had initially planned to organize the auction in Istanbul, but finally, it was held in Kochi, Kerala. Reports from Sportstar claimed that ‘options are being explored’ and Dubai is ‘one of those’ venues.

Increase in Purse

Unlike the previous year, each team will have a purse of Rs 100 crore, which is a rise from last year’s purse of Rs 95 crore.

Meanwhile, there is a also buzz that the auction for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will be held in the first week of December. However, sources said that no date has been finalized yet and haven't received any confirmation from the officials. The highly expected tournament is expected to be held in the February-March window.
