Pakistan's former stalwart cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq has stepped down from his role as Chief Selector for the Pakistan national cricket team amid the underwhelming performance of Pakistan in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which is being hosted in India.

Allegations emerged that Inzamam owns shares in a company called "Yazo International Limited," which is linked to player agent Talha Rehmani. This has raised concerns about a possible conflict of interest, as Inzamam is also the Chief Selector for the Pakistani cricket team. He has the power to choose which players play for the team, and some people are worried that he might choose players who are represented by Talha Rehmani, even if they are not the best players.

Conflicts between PCB and players

This has led to speculation about whether Inzamam's conflicts of interest are influencing his player selection decisions. This is especially concerning given that there are currently disputes between the PCB and players regarding central contracts. The PCB has set up a five-member committee to investigate these allegations. The committee will submit its report and recommendations to the PCB management as soon as possible.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) posted on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter) following Inzamam's resignation: "Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has set up a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate allegations in respect of conflict of interest reported in the media pertaining to the team selection process. The committee will submit its report and any recommendations to the PCB Management in an expeditious manner".
